Kudappan / Banana Flower Ularthiyathu

Ingredients needed to make Kudappan / Banana Flower Ularthiyathu:

1 medium size Kudappan / Banana Flower

1 Onion, finely chopped

1tbsp Garlic, minced

Curry Leaves

Shrimp ( fresh or dried ), optional

1-2tbsp Chilli Flakes

1/4tsp Turmeric

1/2cup Grated Coconut

Salt

Oil

 

Method:

Kudappan / Banana Flower Ularthiyathu

 

Prepping Kudappan / Banana Flower:

Remove 1st two or three layers by simply pulling the petals apart.

Makesure to wash Kudappan before chopping.

Do check the video provided about prepping Kudappan.

Its better to use knife to chop Kudappan, I tried Food processer to chop Kudappan onces but it cameout more of fibery texture.

 

Kudappan / Banana Flower Ularthiyathu

Let’s start Cooking:

Heat some Oil in a pan and saute Onion, Garlic and Curry Leaves.

Saute until Onion turns light brown in color.

Add Fresh or Dried Shrimp, optional.

Allow Shrimp to cook, will take only few minitues.

Sprinkle Chilli Flakes and Turmeric.

Saute for few minitues or until raw smell is gone.

Carefully spread finely chopped Kudappan or Banana Flower.

Add Salt, mix everything well.

Cover the pan using a tight lid and allow Kudappan to cook.

Don’t forget to stir occassionally.

When Kudappan is fully cooked add Grated Coconut.

Mix everything well.

Serve Kudappan / Banana Flower Ularthiyathu hot or warm with Rice.
