Ingredients

  • 1 medium size Kudappan / Banana Flower

  • 1 Onion, finely chopped

  • 1tbsp Garlic, minced

  • Curry Leaves

  • Shrimp ( fresh or dried ), optional

  • 1-2tbsp Chilli Flakes

  • 1/4tsp Turmeric

  • 1/2cup Grated Coconut

  • Salt

  • Oil

Directions

  • Prepping Kudappan / Banana Flower:

     
  • Remove 1st two or three layers by simply pulling the petals apart.
  • Makesure to wash Kudappan before chopping.
  • Do check the video provided about prepping Kudappan.
  • Its better to use knife to chop Kudappan, I tried Food processer to chop Kudappan onces but it cameout more of fibery texture.
  • Let’s start Cooking:
  • Heat some Oil in a pan and saute Onion, Garlic and Curry Leaves.
  • Saute until Onion turns light brown in color.
  • Allow Shrimp to cook, will take only few minitues.
  • Sprinkle Chilli Flakes and Turmeric.
  • Saute for few minitues or until raw smell is gone.
  • Carefully spread finely chopped Kudappan or Banana Flower.
  • Add Salt, mix everything well.
  • Cover the pan using a tight lid and allow Kudappan to cook.
  • Don’t forget to stir occassionally.
  • When Kudappan is fully cooked add Grated Coconut.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Serve Kudappan / Banana Flower Ularthiyathu hot or warm with Rice.
