How to make Soft and Fluffy Roti / Chappathi:
Lot’s of people had asked me the same question, “How to make Soft and Fluffy Roti / Chappathi at home”
Answer is very simple, it’s all about the way you make the dough. Making Roti is a kind of art, more you make more you learn. Everyone can learn it through some practice, and always remember we all learned from our mistakes.
I think everyone will be confused right now!
Let me tell you, making Roti or Chappathi is not any hard or difficult thing to do. Most of us get intimidated by the process of making or kneading dough. Don’t worry I’m going to help you all to make the perfect dough for The Perfect Homemade Roti.
Let’s start making some Roti,
Ingredients needed to make Roti/Chappathi:
2cup Whole Wheat Flour / Atta
Warm Water
Salt
Oil
Method:
Take Wheat Flour or Atta in a big mixing bowl.
Add Salt and drizzle some Oil, around 2tbsp or so.
Run the Flour or Atta through your fingers, allowing the Oil to evenly spread through the Flour.
Carefully pour hot or warm Warm into the Wheat Flour, always start with 1/2 or 1cup of Water.
Using a spoon start mixing the Flour.
While mixing make sure to look for the consistency of the dough, you could feel the flour getting wet and crumbly.
If you see dry Flour or Atta inside the pan, add more Water, maybe 1/2cup or so.
Make sure to mix the dough again with the spoon.
When the Flour or Atta inside the pan is fully transformend into wet crumble, allow the Flour to rest for few mins.
Using your clean hands start kneading the dough, if you feel like dough is little tough, sprinkle some Water.
Knead the dough until it’s not sticking on to your hands or to the bowl.
The consistency of the dough should be soft to touch and not sticking to fingers. ( refer the *notes )
Make small Golf size balls and sprinkle some dry Flour on the countertop and using a rolling pin roll out each dough into thin circles.
Repeat the process until all the dough is finished rolling out.
Heat a non-stick pan and cook Roti’s for about 30sec on each side, until it’s puff up with hot air. ( make sure to watch the video )
Serve Roti / Chappathi hot or warm with Aloo Masala / Chicken Curry / Mutton Curry / Cauliflower Masala
Enjoy!!!!!!!
*Notes:
To understand the consistency or softness of the dough, try to do this method: Open up your right or left hand and using your middle finger try to touch the mount of moon ( that’s the area all the way under your thumb inside your palm ).
That’s the kind of softness you should feel on the dough. ( I think this makes sense )
