Varutharacha Chicken Curry Kerala Style


Ingredients to make Varutharacha Chicken Curry Kerala Style

1 Whole Chicken with Skin ,Β  cut into medium size pieces

Marination for Chicken

1tbsp Chilli Powder

1/2tsp Turmeric Powder



Method :

Marinate the Chicken with Chilli Powder , Turmeric & Salt .

Keep it a side at least for 30min .

Ingredients to make Roasted Coconut

1/2cup Grated Coconut

5tbsp Coriander Powder

1tbsp Chilli Powder

1/2tsp Turmeric Powder

1-2tbsp Black Pepper Powder

1tbsp Garam Masala


Method :

On a non-stick pan dry roast Coconut until it turns golden brown in colour .

Turn the heat down & then add rest of the ingredients .

Mix everything well .

On a low flame fry the masala until the raw smell is gone .

Allow the masala to cool down .

Using a grinder , grind the mixture into a fine paste .

If needed add Water to make the paste .

Ingredients to make Chicken Curry

1 Onion , finely chopped

5tbsp Ginger , Garlic Paste

3 Green Chillies , splited

2 Tomato , diced

Curry Leaves

1tsp Chilli Powder

1tbsp Black Pepper Powder

1tsp Garam Masala


Coconut Oil

Method :

Heat some Oil in a pan & saute Onion , Green Chillies , Ginger , Garlic paste & Curry leaves .

Saute until Onion turns light brown in colour .

Add Chilli Powder , Turmeric , Pepper & Garam Masala .

Saute masala for few min & then add marinated Chicken & Tomato .

If needed add more Salt .

Mix everything well .

Add roasted Coconut paste into the Chicken & mix everything well .

Cover the pan with a lid & cook until the Chicken is cooked well .

Sprinkle some fresh Curry Leaves or Coriander Leaves on top .


Serve it hot with Rice , Roti or Parotta .
