Cabbage Thoran / Kerala Style Cabbage with Coconut
Ingredients needed to make Cabbage Thoran / Kerala Style Cabbage with Coconut:
3-4cup Cabbage, finely grated/chopped
4 Shallots, sliced
3-4 Green Chillies, split
1tsp Garlic, finely chopped
1/2tsp Mustard Seeds
2-3 Whole Red Chillies
2/3cup Grated Coconut
1tsp Turmeric Powder
Heat some Coconut Oil in a pan and add Mustard Seeds.
When Mustard seeds starts to pop, add Cumin and Red Chillies.
Stir for few seconds and add Shallots, Garlic, Green Chillies and Curry Leaves.
Saute everything together until Shallots turn transparent.
Carefully add finely grated/chopped Cabbage.
Add Turmeric and Salt.
Mix everything well.
Allow Cabbage to cook ( it only takes couple of minitues ).
Once Cabbage is cooked, add grated Coconut.
Mix everything well until Coconut is incorperated well with Cabbage.
Taste and make sure to adjust Salt.
Remove from heat and serve warm.
Serve Cabbage Thoran / Kerala Style Cabbage with Coconut with Rice, Sambar and Pappadam.
I always use food processor to finely chop Cabbage. It’s very easy and saves alot of time.
Sometimes I add some grated Carrots too in this dish. Gives a nice color and I can make my kids eat healthy.
Always increase or decrease the number of Green Chillies I used in this recipe according to your tastebuds.
